Massachusetts Commission on the Status of Women’s Sixteenth Annual

  • Massachusetts State House, Great Hall 24 Beacon Street Boston, MA 02133 (map)

Each year the Massachusetts Commission on the Status of Women partners with state legislators to identify women who make outstanding contributions to their communities.  This annual event celebrates all of the women who were nominated by their State Legislators and received the Unsung Heroine Award. Representative Gouveia is attending to celebrate all of the nominees, but in particular the 14th Middlesex’s very own Lingya Zhou, who is receiving this award for her above and beyond dedication to her community through civic engagement, volunteering, and local leadership.

The Unsung Heroines are women who don’t always make the news, but truly make the difference. They are the women who use their time, talent, and enthusiasm to enrich the lives of others and make a difference in their neighborhoods, cities, and towns. They are mentors, volunteers, and innovators who do what needs to be done, without expectations of recognition or gratitude. These women are the glue that keeps a community together and every community has them.
